Requirements and prospects

Desired Skills

  • As mentioned above, it is unlikely the Apprentice will have any prior knowledge of the various technologies we work with, so a good grasp of Microsoft Excel is probably the most important thing we would be looking at in terms of technical abilities
  • Knowledge of programming languages would be useful, but not a requirement as this isn’t a programming/coding role
  • There will be times when we will need to create/support integrations between systems where an understanding would be useful. This can/will be learned if not already known
  • The team are always available so good communication skills will help, but the apprentice will also need to be self-motivated enough to work on their own

Personal qualities

  • Depending on the project size our team members, either work alone or take different parts of a larger project
  • They would be actively encouraged to learn/research as much as they can about the surrounding knowledge of the Smart Building systems
  • Attention to detail would be another key quality to possess as we work with large amounts of data from different sources and invariably there are always discrepancies which we must spot and communicate back to the design team

Desired qualifications

  • GCSEs at grade A-C in maths and English (or the equivalent)
  • Level 2 IT

Future prospects

The skills learned in the above role will enable the apprentice to move to a large variety of roles. Hopefully staying with ExcelRedstone as part of this team or moving into a different role within the company (as the previous Apprentice did). Using the software skills acquired, coupled with the support and project implementation experience, the apprentice would be a great asset to the company in whichever role they choose.

ExcelRedstone also have a wide range of other services which the apprentice will learn about as part of the training to gain a full understanding of the wider IT and Smart Building environment.

Things to consider

Important - You must have somewhere to work from at home as this role will be home based to start with.

Due to Covid 19 related restrictions this role will primarily be based at home or at the college. ExcelRedstone will provide The Apprentice with all relevant IT equipment to enable this (Laptop, phone, etc). We will visit client sites as and when needed, but this is currently kept at a minimum for now.
